The UK’s wood industries massively invested over the last twenty years and they are now extremely competitive. But competition rhymes with a good organisation. A& Scott, a sawmill processing homegrown timber, encounters difficulties to control the round wood stock level. This is mainly due to a lack of production planning and a poor data flow between production staff and timber procurement staff. This thesis presents an analysis of the wood supply chain of the sawmill, aiming to highlight its strengths and weaknesses. Then guidance support tools are proposed in order to improve the stock level management, helping the decision-makers in their choices.

L’industrie du bois au Royaume Uni a investi de manière considérable durant les vingt dernières années, et est maintenant extrêmement compétitive. Mais la compétitivité requiert une bonne organisation. A&J Scott est une scierie transformant du bois produit localement. Cette compagnie rencontre des difficultés pour gérer son stock, principalement du fait du manque de communication interne entre la partie production et le service chargé de l’approvisionnement, et de l’absence de planification de la production. Dans un premier temps,ce mémoire présente une analyse de la chaîne d’approvisionnement en bois à la scierie, visant à mettre en évidence ses points forts et ses points faibles. Dans un second temps, des outils aidant les responsables dans leur choix pour la gestion du stock, sont proposés.
