This book has been widdely recognised in Europe as a major contribution to the interface between geography and social theory. It connects discussions in the philosophy of social science with theory of action which have direct relevance to concept of space. Th book provides a discussion of Popper's critical rationalism, linking thi with ideas drawn from phenomenology. This epistemological debate is linked with the sociological action theories of Pareto, Weber, Parsons and Schutz. The book closes with an evaluation of how "the spatial" can be systemtically integrated into action theory. The book offers exciting new directions for geography and sociology as "spatial sciences".
