"Agricultural land is a complex, finite and limited renewable resource, which is becoming more and more scarce in metropolitan areas. Agricultural land is an asset to both the private and public sector, harbouring a high diversity of human activities. It is an essential resource, necessary for food production and a key element for rich and balanced ecosystems. It is, as well, a key ingredient in the constitution of the landscape and the quality of life of its population. It is the physical basis for farming: no land, no farmers. At the same time, farmers are the best guarantors of its management.
