Résumé : |
As a part of the Shea Gets Greener (SGG) project, an environmental and social assessment on Shea butter processing was conducted in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. The project, funded by USAID and Savannah Fruits company (SFC) is implemented by Nitidæ with the collaboration of SFC. It intends to help in the dissemination of improved equipment and practices for more environmentally friendly Shea butter production as well as processors’ working conditions. The first phase of this study was to characterize pre-project environmental and social baseline i.e., the prevailing current situation. The first phase of this study was to characterize pre-project environmental and social baseline i.e., the prevailing current situation. Thus, in individual processing characterization of practices based on quick and brief surveys as well as variable measurements were conducted. In collective facilities where practices are already known only variable measurement were carried out. Hence indicators such as labor compensation, fuelwood consumption, waste emission, and smoke exposure were determined. |
