For 20 years, France has published the sustainable forest management’s report for mainland France. Forests in overseas territories account for 30% of national forested surface area but in spite of their magnitude and their exceptional biodiversity are not included in the report. Depuis 20 ans, la France publie régulièrement un rapport sur la gestion durable des forêts métropolitaines. Cependant, l’outre-mer, en plus de représenter 30 % de la superficie des forêts françaises et une biodiversité exceptionnelle, n’est pas pris en compte. Pour pallier cette lacune, le projet IGDOM a été mené dans le but d’intégrer les départements et régions d’outre-mer au sein des indicateurs de gestion durable des forêts françaises (IGDFF). Une équipe d’étudiants a travaillé sur l’élaboration d’un référentiel pour à la fois intégrer les enjeux ultramarins spécifiques et garder une cohérence au sein du référentiel européen adopté par la France. Cet article s’attache à décrire les enjeux de la gestion forestière dans les départements et régions d’outre-mer. Quelques exemples caractéristiques d’indicateurs pour chaque territoire sont également abordés pour illustrer les travaux effectués par cette mission.
