Résumé : |
The current development of the renewable energy sector has produced greater timber demand to which cropping systems such as short and very short rotation coppices can contribute. However these crops have not gained much ground because although the basic knowledge pertaining to the production systems is well established and tested in Europe, these systems are not very profitable in Germany or France where the sector is taking shape and where there is competition for land for growing food crops. Short rotation coppicing is currently still marginal and the surfaces areas involved often small. The Franco-German project CREFF (reduction of costs and improvement of the efficiency of the short rotation coppice sector) is coordinated by the INRA Nancy site. Its aim is to develop structured research cooperation between research bodies, producers and the industrial players in the bioenergy sector. It was selected under the European call for SRC projects, that arose from ERA-Net Bioenergy. Based on intense cooperation between producers and consumers and a detailed analysis of the costs involved at every step in the process of production, the CREFF project aims to investigate various routes that may impact the financial outcome of short and very short rotation cropping. The partners compare various growing systems and the methods applied at every stage of the production process.
