The current development of the renewable energy sector has produced greater timber demand to which cropping systems such as short and very short rotation coppices can contribute. Short rotation coppicing is currently still marginal and the surfaces areas involved often small. The Franco-German project CREFF (reduction of costs and improvement of the efficiency of the short rotation coppice sector) is coordinated by the INRA Nancy site. Its aim is to develop structured research cooperation between research bodies, producers and the industrial players in the bioenergy sector. It was selected under the European call for SRC projects, that arose from ERA-Net Bioenergy. Based on intense cooperation between producers and consumers and a detailed analysis of the costs involved at every step in the process of production, the CREFF project aims to investigate various routes that may impact the financial outcome of short and very short rotation cropping. The partners compare various growing systems and the methods applied at every stage of the production process.
Le développement actuel du secteur des énergies renouvelables occasionne une demande en bois accrue à laquelle des systèmes de culture tels que les taillis à courte et très courte rotation pourraient aider à répondre. L’essor de ce type de culture est cependant lent car même si les connaissances de base concernant leurs systèmes de production sont déjà bien établies et testées en Europe, ces systèmes de culture restent une alternative peu rentable en Allemagne et en France où la filière est en cours d’établissement et où il existe une compétition avec l’agriculture à fins alimentaires pour l’utilisation des terres. À l’heure actuelle, la culture des taillis à courte rotation est donc cantonnée à des sites marginaux et souvent de petite taille. Coordonné par l’INRA de Nancy, le projet franco-allemand CREFF « Réduction des coûts et amélioration de l’efficacité de la filière des taillis à courte rotation » a pour objectif de développer des coopérations de recherche structurées entre les organismes de recherche, les producteurs et les industriels de la filière autour de la bioénergie. Il a été sélectionné dans le cadre de l’appel à projet européen TCR de l’ERA-Net Bioenergy. Basée sur une coopération forte entre producteurs et consommateurs et sur une analyse fine des coûts de chaque maillon de la filière de production, ce projet se propose d’étudier les différents itinéraires susceptibles d’affecter le bilan financier de l’exploitation des taillis à courte et très courte rotation. Les partenaires comparent les différents modes de cultures et les méthodes intervenant à chaque étape du processus de production.
