A heightened awareness of the importance of biological diversity to humankind has generated increased support for on-going and new efforts targeted at documenting biodiversity and analyzing the results of such work. The aim of this volume is to present recent advances in the use of permanent plots for monitoring forest biodiversity int eh New World. The first section in this volume provides some foundation for the monitoring framework, with chapters dedicated to the impact of socio-economic factors on biodiversity and the importance of a worldwide network to monitor forest change. The remainder of the sections in the book present case studies from North America, where different approaches to networking have been taken; Central America and studies of dry forest; the Caribbean, with [...]
