The Petit Saut hydro scheme in French Guiana included a comprehensive environmental protection programme, which was implemented by EDF. Animals threatened by reservoir impounding were rescued and released in a protected area, where their activity and progress were carefully monitored. A major side benefit of the project was increased knowledge of the indigenous wlidlife, and the effects of relocation anf fragmentation of the rain forest |
