Résumé : |
Logging in French Guyana produces less than 70,000 m3 of roundwood per year, yet logging pressure on the forest could easily increase if the price of wood products on the international market increase, or if the local population grows in size. With the goal of understanding the local ecosystem and being able to recommend steps for sustainable forestry, CIRAD-Forêt began to study the natural regeneration and growth dynamics of a secondary forest in 1976. A25 ha areas was clearcut in order to establish realstic post-loggingconditions, and a centrally located 6.25 ha plot was used as the actual study area. This paper looks at the state of the vegetative population after 16 years of naturel regeneration, focusing on density, basal area, and spatial distribution of species. Next, we analys[...] Logging in French Guyana produces less than 70,000 m3 of roundwood per year, yet logging pressure on the forest could easily increase if the price of wood products on the international market increase, or if the local population grows in size. Next, we analyse the vegetative evolution through time by tracking mortality, recruitment , and diameter growth over the past 16 years. (Résumé scannérisé.) |
