Quantification of litterfall and soil respiration was made in a regenerating hillock forest ecosystem of western Orissa from September 1993 to August 1994. The litterfall varied from 18.8 - 87-7 g/m2/month, whereas soil respiration from 117.7-444.mg CO2/m2/hr during the study period. The litterfall and soil respiration was maximum during rainy and minimum during summer season. The average litterfall and soil respiration were respectively 52.8 g/m2/month and 230.8 mg CO2/M2/hr. Solar radiation showed significant positive and relative humidity showed significant relative correlation with litterfall. Soil moisture organic carbon and total nitrogen were positively correlated with soil respiration whereas negative correlation of these parameters were obtained with litterfall. |
