Résumé :	Dans la première partie,l'article explique les raisons de la création du Réseau national de suivi à long terme des Écosystèmes forestiers et donne des exemples concrets permettant de comprendre la prise en compte du climat,la fertilité des sols,la nutrition minérale des arbres,les dépôts atmosphériques,leur état sanitaire,la phénologie du débourrement et de la chute des feuilles,le suivi phytoécologie et le suivi de la production primaire des forêts.La deuxième partie expose les critères de sélection des 102 placettes permanentes,suivi d'une description détaillée de la réalisation des opérations par les 213 personnes directement concernées.La troisième partie montre comment le gestionnaire du réseau,l'Office national des Forets,a organisé le réseau au sein de son établissement et donne un aperçu de ses collaborations avec des organismes de recherche et laboratoires d'analyses.Enfin.l'état d'avancement des travaux en été 1994 et quelques premiers résultats sont présentés. The first part of the article explains the reasons for the creation of the French National Network for the long term monitoring of Forest Ecosystems (in French :Réseau national de suivi à long terme des Écosystèmes forestiers),by giving concrete examples like the influence of climate,soil fertility,tree mineral nutrition,atmospheric deposition,the sanitary status of trees,the phenology of budding and litterfall,the evo- lution of the plant composition and the primary production of forests.The second part gives an insight into the selection criteria of the 102 per- manent plots,followed by a detailed description of the work carried out by the 213 persons directly concerned.The third part shows how the manager of the network,the French National Forest Office,has organized the network and his collaborations with research institutes and ana- lytical laboratories.Finally,a summary of the work carried out until summer 1994 is given,including somme first results.
