Agroecosystems have been traditionally researched and discussed in terms of their physico-biological properties or their socio-economic dimensions. In the absence of an integrated stream of analyses wich combines these aspects, says the author, the knowledge base on the complex operational realities of agro-ecosystems in India will not develop adequately. This book argues for an integrated stream of analyses of agroecosystems which could provide the foundation for a comprehensive agro-ecosystem policy in India at the national and sub-national levels. The author distils lessons from the unsustainable experience of two contrasting agroecosystems of Karnataka to advance his central argument for a new agroecosystem policy, the contours of which are outlined iin the book.
