Résumé : |
This paper presents preliminary results obtained within the 1992 sarex compaign in French Guiana, concerning the use of CCRS airborne SAR data for the mapping of dense tropical forest and deforestation due to shifting cultivation practices. After a discussion on calibration procedure, both relative radar backcatter 0° and texture index (coefficient of variation) at C- and X-hand, VV & VH polarization and various incidence angles 0 were analyzed as a function of general land cover types. It was observed that 1) backcatter information is scientificantly correlated between available SAR configurations, with crop arcas showing a larger backcatter range than forest, creating high confusion between these two general cover types and 2) texture information, which depends on frequency and inci[...]

It was observed that 1) backcatter information is scientificantly correlated between available SAR configurations, with crop arcas showing a larger backcatter range than forest, creating high confusion between these two general cover types and 2) texture information, which depends on frequency and incidence angle, allows to discriminate dense forest from crop and low vegetation arcas. At this stage, the best configuration was found to be CVH-XVII, as X-Band texture allows to |
