Le statut de la forêt privée,le développement des organismes coopératifs ne paraissent pas à même de porter remède à cette situation. Leur effet, depuis 20 ans, est d'accroître, sans contrepartie, les contraintes au niveau de la production et du foncier. Il appartient aux propriétaires de s'interroger sur leurs objectifs de gestion et de compter essentiellement sur eux-mêmes et sur leur esprit d'initiative pour valoriser au mieux leur patrimoine. International competition in the timber market puts French foresters in an unfavourable financial position. The regulations governing private forestry and the development of cooperatives do not seem capable of remedying the situation. Over the last 20 years they have had the effect of increasing constraints on production and land. Owners must examine their management objectives and rely mainly on their own resources and initiative to improve their properties as much as possible.
